Summary

Fans of the Hallmark Channel and Gilmore Girls will adore this delightful rom‑com about a city girl who goes in search of small-town happiness, only to discover life—and love—are nothing like the TV movies。

Emerging journalist Adina Gellar is done with dating in New York City。 If she’s learned anything from made-for-TV romance movies, it’s that she’ll find love in a small town—the kind with harvest festivals, delightful but quirky characters, and scores of delectable single dudes。 So when a big-city real estate magnate targets tiny Pleasant Hollow for development, Adi knows she’s found the perfect story—one that will earn her a position at a coveted online magazine, so she can finally start adulting for real 。 。 。 and maybe even find her dream man in the process。

Only Pleasant Hollow isn’t exactly “pleasant。” There’s no charming bakery, no quaint seasonal festivals, and the residents are more ambivalent than welcoming。 The only upside is Finn Adams, who’s more mouthwatering than the homemade cherry pie Adi can’t seem to find—even if he does work for the company she’d hoped to bring down。 Suddenly Adi has to wonder if maybe TV got it all wrong after all。 But will following her heart mean losing her chance to break into the big time?

A cute, down-to-earth romance about a struggling magazine writer who goes to a small town in upstate NY looking for Hallmark movie community spirit, a useful nemesis (as those movies apparently always have), and lucky love。 If you actually watch Hallmark movies, you'll probably get a lot more of the references than I did (though you may also be startled at the occasional R-rated scenes)。 The difference between what Adi expects and thinks she needs and the reality of the town and who she's ultima A cute, down-to-earth romance about a struggling magazine writer who goes to a small town in upstate NY looking for Hallmark movie community spirit, a useful nemesis (as those movies apparently always have), and lucky love。 If you actually watch Hallmark movies, you'll probably get a lot more of the references than I did (though you may also be startled at the occasional R-rated scenes)。 The difference between what Adi expects and thinks she needs and the reality of the town and who she's ultimately attracted to makes for some good comedy and an ultimate happy ending。 I appreciate the way the heroine repeatedly speaks her truth instead of suffering in angsty silence。 Recommended for romance readers who appreciate a woman who tells it like it is and won't mind a pretty heavy reliance on current popular culture。 。。。more

Adina Gellar is 25, living with her mother, piecing together an income by teaching spin classes and making lattes all while she pursues her dream of becoming a lifestyle journalist。 When she hears about a big city developer building condos in a small town upstate, she gets the idea to investigate a Hallmark movie come to life。 She's disappointed to find that the tropes of movies don't always translate to real life。 The setup for this story was cute and it had a lot of laugh-out-loud moments and Adina Gellar is 25, living with her mother, piecing together an income by teaching spin classes and making lattes all while she pursues her dream of becoming a lifestyle journalist。 When she hears about a big city developer building condos in a small town upstate, she gets the idea to investigate a Hallmark movie come to life。 She's disappointed to find that the tropes of movies don't always translate to real life。 The setup for this story was cute and it had a lot of laugh-out-loud moments and funny side characters。 Adina definitely reads as a 25 year old who is pretty sheltered and I did find myself rolling my eyes at some of her actions and dialogue。 Finn was a good love interest, but his codependence with his father was pretty bad。Content warnings: Finn's father is an alcoholic and the impact of that on Finn's life is a major theme throughout the book。 There's a scene where a drunk father insults and degrades Adina using slurs。 Thanks to Forever and NetGalley for the gifted copy。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

3。5 stars for this because I'm sorry to say that this was a very middle-of-the-road read for me。 There is nothing wrong with it, but it's also nothing particularly original。 Which, in hindsight, might be what they were going for because it's as formulaic as the Hallmark romance movies that leading lady Adina is obsessed with。 A city girl with big dreams of small-town romance brought on by stories of her parents' story and a love of romantic movies and TV shows, Adina is desperate to launch her c 3。5 stars for this because I'm sorry to say that this was a very middle-of-the-road read for me。 There is nothing wrong with it, but it's also nothing particularly original。 Which, in hindsight, might be what they were going for because it's as formulaic as the Hallmark romance movies that leading lady Adina is obsessed with。 A city girl with big dreams of small-town romance brought on by stories of her parents' story and a love of romantic movies and TV shows, Adina is desperate to launch her career as an entertainment journalist when she stumbles upon what she's convinced is the article that will jumpstart her career: a big corporation invading a small town to build expensive highrises and destroy the cozy, friendly culture of the town。 The problem is that when Adina arrives at the small town, absolutely nothing is like she expected。 It is interesting to see Adina realizing that the grass being always greener is a saying for a reason。 It's in those scenes where her preconceived notions get torn apart that the best parts of the story take place。 Reading as Adina starts to accept things as they are and looking for the positive in things is what made this a worthwhile read。 Happy thanks to NetGalley and Forever for the read! 。。。more

This book was a pretty solid 3。5 stars。 Adina and Finn’s story was sweet in every perfect rom-com way—though the synopsis made it seem like they would have a distaste for each other at first meet which was not the case at all。 The story was a little slow through the beginning and rushed at the end, but overall was a good read。

Adina is a writer to heads to a small town to write a “actually happening in real life” Hallmark Movie article。 Only when she arrives, the town is anything but that。 The people are actually in favor of the Big City Corporate Builder coming in to build a high rise apartment builder and bring in chain stores and coffeeshops…。。What?!The story was entertaining and I loved the connection between Adi and Finn (Big City Corporate Builders project manager)。 I found it comical that the story didn’t go as Adina is a writer to heads to a small town to write a “actually happening in real life” Hallmark Movie article。 Only when she arrives, the town is anything but that。 The people are actually in favor of the Big City Corporate Builder coming in to build a high rise apartment builder and bring in chain stores and coffeeshops…。。What?!The story was entertaining and I loved the connection between Adi and Finn (Big City Corporate Builders project manager)。 I found it comical that the story didn’t go as planned and Adi had to find different angles…some that also didn’t work out。This book was billed as a nod to Gilmore Girls, but I seemed to have missed that connection outside of the small town setting。 The plot was familiar but not predictable。 I also enjoyed the Jewish representation。 4 StarsThank you to @netgalley and @readforeverpub for a free copy of this book。 。。。more

A cute contemporary romance that is perfect for carrying it while you are on your weekend getaway。 I liked the characters of Adina and Finn。 There wasn't too much of mess or heaviness in the storyline and was a simple read。 Overall a one time read。 A cute contemporary romance that is perfect for carrying it while you are on your weekend getaway。 I liked the characters of Adina and Finn。 There wasn't too much of mess or heaviness in the storyline and was a simple read。 Overall a one time read。 。。。more

I should have liked this book more, with a main character who wants to be a “journalist” lifestyle blogger and a Hallmark Movie romance angle。 But the book was slow to grab my interest in the first half。 Luckily the storyline picked up and had an entertaining ending。 This was my first time reading this author and she seems so nice on Instagram。 I’ll keep following her for future books。

This was such a cute book! I went in blind and so I had no idea what to expect。 I enjoyed it more than I thought I would。

As a big fan of both Hallmark movies and Gilmore Girls, I was so excited to receive a copy of As Seen On TV。 Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations。 While the story was cute, I didn’t really connect with Finn or Adina and was left wanting something more。*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review。

Ok do not describe a book to me as “for lovers of Gilmore Girls” when all you do is just **mention** Gilmore Girls a couple of times。 I found myself dreading to keep reading this one, gave it one extra star because at the end I said “awwww”

Adi is a journalist trying to launch her career in NYC while working as a barista and a spin instructor。 She thinks she’s finally found her break writing a story about a big developer breaking ground in a town north of the city。 She expects it to be just like a Hallmark movie - charming small town doesn’t want big developer coming in, visiting journalist falls in love with small town man, etc… but that’s not what happens。 This book was fun and I really enjoyed it! As Seen on TV was just okay for me。 I didn't connect to the main character or the romance。 There was nothing that I specifically didn't like, I was just generally underwhelmed。 I hope this works better for others。 As Seen on TV was just okay for me。 I didn't connect to the main character or the romance。 There was nothing that I specifically didn't like, I was just generally underwhelmed。 I hope this works better for others。 。。。more

⭐3。5Nice small town romance。I wanted to read this book because it has Gilmore Girls vibes! Adina Gellar is a huge fan of Hallmark movies where the big city girl finds love in the idyllic small town。 So in order to save her writing career, she decides to do a piece on the charm of a small town and maybe? just like you see on TV, find a cute guy。 She picks a town where a big real estate company is building a complex hoping to find residents in protest mode and she can break the story and deliver a Hallmark moment of her own。 Except, the town isn't cute or quaint and they don't really ca Adina Gellar is a huge fan of Hallmark movies where the big city girl finds love in the idyllic small town。 So in order to save her writing career, she decides to do a piece on the charm of a small town and maybe? just like you see on TV, find a cute guy。 She picks a town where a big real estate company is building a complex hoping to find residents in protest mode and she can break the story and deliver a Hallmark moment of her own。 Except, the town isn't cute or quaint and they don't really care what's happening with the huge construction project。 But she does meet Finn, and while he's sweet and handsome, he's not acting like the small town hero。This was a cute premise, and I liked most of the book。 The issues between the couple carried on for way too long, and if you have to have the best friend explain the grand gesture, then it loses its moment。 。。。more

part cringe read part hate read … i would not recommend this at all under any circumstances。 the romantic lead barely made this palatable enough to finish but。 as someone who has watched a Lot of hallmark movies this year this was just, bad。 clunky, insulting, and all around yikes。

2。5 stars。 This was… fine。 The protagonist was kind of annoying。 And there wasn’t enough chemistry or banter between the love interests, so I didn’t really care when the spicy parts came。 The ending was cute enough though

I liked this romance - it had some charming moments and qualities - but I've read so many really expertly written romances this year that this will not make it onto the shelf of my most memorable reads in the genre。 I would put it into my "that was okay" category, in terms of my rating system。What worked:- obvious and satisfying Gilmore Girls / Stars Hollow vibes- the depth of the hero character, Finn- a cozy quality to how the narrative unfoldedHowevers:- I'm afraid the writing didn't sparkle f I liked this romance - it had some charming moments and qualities - but I've read so many really expertly written romances this year that this will not make it onto the shelf of my most memorable reads in the genre。 I would put it into my "that was okay" category, in terms of my rating system。What worked:- obvious and satisfying Gilmore Girls / Stars Hollow vibes- the depth of the hero character, Finn- a cozy quality to how the narrative unfoldedHowevers:- I'm afraid the writing didn't sparkle for me。 It felt flat and unrefined a lot of the time。- I didn't feel compelled to read this。 A romance reading experience houldn't feel effortful, but at times, this one did。 Perhaps the premise was too familiar, too much like a Hallmark movie for my romance taste?Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a digital ARC of this title。 。。。more

I kind of hated this book but I finished it anyway。 The ending was cute where his grand gesture was changing his dating profile but overall this book was dumb! Adi was an obnoxious, naive, failure to launch 25 year old living in lala land。 Her and Finn had zero chemistry and there was way too much drama for only one week of a relationship。 Not a fan。

Adina thought she was going to a quintessential small town as seen on TV。 Who doesn’t crave a Hallmark movie kind of location with romance? Unfortunately, the town she ends up in is not the quant and quirky place she was thought it would be。 This book is a fun and I completely enjoyed it! I really liked how it played against the small town stereotypes and showed you sometimes you need to release your expectations to see where life takes you。 I would totally recommend this book to anyone who has Adina thought she was going to a quintessential small town as seen on TV。 Who doesn’t crave a Hallmark movie kind of location with romance? DNF at 47%Just felt like I should’ve been 80% done even though nothing had happened。 Also, the biggest issue the main character faces could have been solved pretty easily (in my opinion)。
